Cape Sundew (Drosera Capensis)
The Cape Sundew is originally from the cape of South Africa, and makes an excellent beginner plant. These plants were lovingly grown in-house by us from seed under T8 grow lights.
Care Guide
Sun: Full to part sun, and they require at least six hours of direct light to thrive. We grow and keep ours under T8 grow lights indoors under a 14-hour light schedule. If after it has acclimated for a few weeks you're not seeing dew on the leaves, try giving it more light.
Water: Keep your Cape Sundew sitting in a tray with distilled, rain, or reverse osmosis water. Let the plant be constantly bottom-watered this way so that the soil is consistently moist.
Temperature: Cape Sundews are relatively hardy to different environments and temperatures. They do tend to like a small drop in temperatures at night as they would experience in the outdoors naturally.
Soil: Recommended mix is four parts peat moss to one part perlite.
Fertilizer: If your sundew won't be gorging itself on bugs, you can apply MaxSea fertilizer at a ratio of 1/4 teaspoon diluted in 1 gallon of water to the leaves of your plant once per month with a misting bottle.
Dormancy: Cape sundews do not need a dormancy period.
